Vera (12/11/1999 - 4/9/2006
Vera is my sweet little girl ferret. You would think that I would spoil
her rotten, but actually, she spoils me rotten. Since I have a bunch of
hyper fuzzies, Vera takes the opportunity to be extra sweet to me (the others
don't pay too much attention to their mommy). She is a very kissy ferret
and loves make sure I'm well-groomed.
I got Vera because I was looking for a playmate for my Noodle (she came as a package
deal). I had heard someone say that you can adopt ferrets from a shelter (had
I known this I probably wouldn't have purchased Noodle...not that I would give him
up for anything in the world, but I'm all about saving unwanted animals). Anyway,
I was looking for another fuzzy playmate for my Noodle, and I started surfing
the internet for ferret information. Lo and behold, there was a ferret club in
my area that happened to have some listings for ferrets on their "Need Homes" page. I saw
an ad that interested me...a little girl Vera and a little boy Chance. So, I
contacted the woman who was fostering them, and scheduled a time for Noodle and
I to meet these two.
After watching Noodle, Chance, and Vera play together for a little while, I knew
I had found the pals Noodle was looking for (I only wanted one, but I got 2 instead -
much better than I had hoped for). I took the 2 new ones home (after giving the
foster mom a week to say goodbye), and I began integrating them with Noodle. It did
not take long for me to fall absolutely in love with my kissy little girl. She does
not have as much energy as my other rascals, but she surely has a lot of love. That
and she's the only one who doesn't give me trouble when I give her a bath (she likes
to swim laps).
Vera is such a wonderful little girl. Everyone who meets her wants to keep her (well,
if they are ferret people). But no one can have my little girl because she's got me
totally wrapped around her little paw. Sometimes, when I let my ferrets stay out all
night, Vera will wake me up in the morning around 5 am (and what better alarm clock
than a ferret licking your face?). Being the nurturing female in my crew, she takes
responsibility for everyone's cleanliness. She grooms all her siblings and also her
mommy (with no objections from any of us). My little Vera...such a sweetheart.
My little Vera crossed the bridge on April 9. She had been suffering with a heart condition
and was finally relieved of her pain. I had thought I would lose her around Christmas, but
she wasn't ready to go. Even up until the day she died, she still gave kisses to anyone who
would allow it. She still entertained the cats and demanded respect, although she was never
anything but sweet. "The best for last". I guess it's true. While I consider all of my
ferrets to be best in different ways, Vera had to be the sweetest one who ever graced my life.
Now, take care of your brothers and sister, sweet girl. They've been waiting patiently for you.
